Gardener once rightly said, “Self-pity is easily the most destructive of the non-pharmaceutical narcotics; it is addictive, gives momentary pleasure and separates the victim from reality. ” It's easy to wallow in self-pity. It's like sinking into a warm, comforting bath, with the added bonus that you don't even have to get out of your pyjamas. There's something oddly satisfying about feeling sorry for yourself.
